Ilium
Ilium
was a top-class two-year-old and one of the horses that first put Troy on
the map as a sire, finishing a close third in the Racing Post Trophy on
only his second start. He became a serious contender for the Epsom Derby
after emulating his sire with a win in the Predominate Stakes at Goodwood,
but unfortunately ran a bad race in the Derby itself. He went on to be a
pretty good stayer, especially on soft ground, and won the Yorkshire Cup
at four years old. He was retired to stud initially as a dual-purpose sire
but in recent years his progeny have done better over the jumps than they
have on the flat, so nowadays he stands as a National hunt sire in
Ireland.
Helenetta
Helenetta
won the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks at three, a performance which came as a bit
of a surprise as in her only previous race she had finished way down the
field! She ran fairly well in a few other races afterwards but the
Lancashire Oaks win was the highlight of her racing career.
Grand Tour
(Pictured above as a foal). Grand Tour came as close as you can to winning a Classic -
inched out of the Italian Derby by just a nose, he won the Zetland Stakes as a
two-year-old and put up several good performances at three both in England and Italy. He
also later on won the Grosser Preis von St. Moritz in Switzerland - a race run on ice, no
less! However since then I have lost track of him - if anyone has any information I'd be
grateful for it - please either e-mail me or fill in the response form.
Port Helene
Pictured left as a yearling, Port Helene won the Listed Oaks Trial stakes.
She is now dam of the useful staying filly Helen of Spain, who won the Prix
de Pomone in France as a three-year-old.
Lavender Mist
Better known as the dam of Italian Gran Criterium winner Steamer Duck, Lavender Mist
herself was no mean racehorse. She won (appropriately enough) the Ballymacoll Stud Stakes
(L) as a three-year-old. She was a full-sister to Papermoon(FR), who was
also a listed winner.
Inde Pulse
Inde Pulse was a decent three-year-old stayer in his time, winning among other races
the Listed Lonsdale Stakes.
City Fortress
Another better known as the dam of a top class horse (Fastness),
City Fortress herself won the Listed Prix de Menneval in
France.
